The Office of Information Technology is excited to announce an upcoming enhancement to our IT Asset Management processes that will standardize the "Asset Tag" field for servers and networking gear. This update will streamline asset tracking, improve data accuracy, and will pave the way for future innovations in how we manage and integrate asset tags into broader asset management strategies.
What to expect
Starting May 30, 2024, the "Asset Tag" field on server and networking gear records will be read-only and automatically populated with a standardized unique asset tag number in the format PRI######.
If any existing "Asset Tag" fields are empty or do not conform to the new standard format, they will be automatically updated with a new unique asset tag number.
We understand that some groups have used this field for custom data entry. To preserve this information, we will transfer any custom data from the "Asset Tag" field to the "Comments" field of the relevant records. You can review the records supported by your group for any custom data within the "Asset Tag" field that will be updated.
What you need to do if you use Asset Tag for reporting
For those who rely on this custom data for reporting purposes, we recommend setting up a dedicated reporting category enabling you to create reports.
If you have any questions or need assistance with setting up a new reporting category, email the Service Management Office at [email protected].
