Enabling new E911 functionality in Cisco's Webex

On April 20, 2024 at 7 a.m., the Office of Information Technology will migrate Cisco Webex to the cloud, enabling new 911 functionality. There is no change to desk phones and existing voicemail messages will remain in email inboxes.

What users may need to do

Although no change in functionality is expected, end-users accessing Webex between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 20 may need to log out and back in. After 3 p.m., users will be automatically prompted to log in again using their netID credentials.

An important note regarding E911

If you are using Webex on a wired connection or off-campus, you will be prompted to manually provide an address to be used when making an emergency call from Webex app. Learn how to set and change your 911 location in Webex. If you are on campus connected wirelessly, no action is necessary. The location will automatically update according to the wireless access point you are connected to.

Removal of Jabber from managed computers

As a reminder, Jabber has reached end-of-life and was removed from University managed computers on April 4, 2024. To avoid an interruption in service, users should use Webex, which is pre-installed on all managed computers. Users on unmanaged computers may download Webex directly from the Cisco website.
